Deep Thoughts

My Comments and Observations

12/11/99 RE: Message 15 - It seems silly to state the title of your mud post as the reply to a specific post number. After all, with posts constantly getting removed, the other post numbers are constantly changing! Let me offer this advice: Copy and paste the subject from the post you are replying to, and put "RE:" in front of it.

12/4/99 Ass kissers - All of the ass kissers out there need to discontinue their hobby. It's pretty safe for them though since to comment on a code change is dangerous. However, simply keeping quiet is preferrable. I hope those punks appreciate what us "whiners" do for them. After all, THEY benefit after the problems get fixed. Two recent prime examples: 1. Invisible players will have a message shown rather than no message at all now. 2. Dropping your weapon after missing a circle happens about every two days now, as opposed to "once every 20" as I was told.

11/16/99 Removed posts - Please start sending donations to Montana for a new hard drive. The 20 kilobytes or so generated by the ten new posts each day is taking up too much space and must be removed daily.

11/15/99 AFK flag will be turned off if you type a command. - Not a bad idea, although everyone I know has a trigger to enter a command when they go into the void. If a person is AFK for five minutes, they will void and the trigger will be executed. Thus the afk flag is almost useless.

11/5/99 Why we don't have new players - Late night thoughts at 3:21 am. When players can lose up to 7 or 8 con per death as they get older, it's no wonder that new players are deterred from playing. "Remort!", "Jack!", players scream. While not difficult, it is quite time consuming to maintain a crew on TDome. I would guess that the time needed to play TDome (at the level of playing most want) far exceeds the time most people set aside for playing games. If you're working full time, and set aside an hour or two to MUD each night, it's not enough time to die and recover the con for your crew. Eventually the crew will be con dead. The alternative is taking fewer risks (living in knight tree), but for most people, risks are part of the game.

10/28/99 Useless Information - What would the game be like if what one person saw was broadcasted to everybody? When somebody ate a piece of bread, everyone logged in would know; when a rabbit was killed and meat taken from its corpse, those messages would be sent to all. This is beginning to become a reality. Such can be seen with silly triggers that broadcast to all that after a fierce battle, a mighty tek hunter has been defeated. Is this such a thing to boast about? Another example of such useless broadcasts are those which appear after the dome has been cleared. It seems that the only people who might be interested would be those in the group that cleared the area. This information should be obvious to them without being told. To the rest of the players, this appears to be more useless information. If they cared about clearing the zone, wouldn't they be among those who are at the cleared zone?

10/09/99 Player Damage - A player's damage rating can never equally be compared to that of any other player until they start using the same mobs when they test. A destroy on a forest guard is much different than a destroy on tank or the statue of RA.
