Vague mountains dot the blood caked terrain far off to the distance.
Foothills roll across the land in an endless track. The wastelands stretch
out as far as the eye can see, eventually meeting the blood red horizon far
off into the distance. Neither sun nor stars grace the painfully bleak
crimson sky, instead, the air itself seems to radiate an eerie red light.

The Barren Wastelands
The inhospitable wastes of Avernus continue as far as the eye can see,
eventually joining the blood red horizon. The Stigmaris Mountains tower far
to the north, complimenting the horrific environment. Sharp stones made of
quartz and obsidian cut into the feet of all not accustomed to the hostile
terrain. Fireballs scream and pound into anything and everything, reducing
most structures to piles of rubble and ash. Remnants of cities and towns
sucked into the Nine Hells are now only slight marks on the otherwise dreary
landscape. Time slips by with the only somewhat accurate way to measure the
seconds and minutes is the pained howls of the tortured souls as the baatezu
"convert" and "recruit" them into the masses of the Blood War, their eternal
struggle with the tanar'ri. Lesser baatezu round up masses of nupperibos and
lemures for the food soldiers of the endless armies.
